ROMANS 16: OBEDIENCE WITH DISCERNMENT

Scripture

Romans 16:19 — “Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good and innocent about what is evil.”

Paul closes the book of Romans by recognizing the obedience and faithfulness of the believers. He encourages them to remain wise about what is good while staying innocent and separate from evil.
This reminds us that following Christ is not only about knowing what is right but also about living it out through obedience. God calls us to be careful about what we allow into our hearts and minds. We should pursue what is good, pleasing to God, and beneficial to others, while refusing to be drawn into things that lead us away from Him.

Romans 16 also shows the importance of Christian community. Paul mentions many people who faithfully served God alongside him. This reminds us that we are not meant to walk with God alone. We should value, encourage, and serve together with other believers.

Today, let us examine what influences our thoughts, words, and actions.

Choose what is good and pleasing to God.
Be careful about influences that can lead us toward sin.
Practice obedience instead of merely knowing God’s Word.
Encourage and appreciate the people who serve God alongside us.
Ask God for wisdom to recognize what is good and discern what is harmful.
We want our lives to show that we truly belong to Christ—not only through our words, but through our obedience.

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word, for the revelation and conviction it brings. Give us wisdom to recognize what is good and courage to reject what is evil. Help us to obey You even when it is difficult. Keep our hearts pure and our minds focused on You. Thank You for the people You have placed in our lives. Help me to encourage them, serve them, and grow together with them in faith. May our lives bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
