2 Corinthians 1: The God of All Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Paul is reminding us who God is.
Our God is: “The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”, “the Father of mercies” “God of all comfort” -means that we come to God through Jesus. He is compassionate and forgiving. He is giving not just some comfort but all comfort. For all kinds of pain in all our afflictions. God doesn’t remove the affliction. But He goes with us in it.

Sometimes we tend to seek the comfort of this world gives, and it only leave us unsatisfied hollow and empty. But today, we are reminded that our God is the God of all comfort. And the comfort He gives is always fulfilling and satisfying. He comforts us “so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction”. God’s comfort is not just for us. The comfort we receive is meant to flow through us to others. We comfort others with the same comfort God gave us.

How do we apply this?

In times of affliction, we should run to God not away from God. Sometimes, when life gets difficult, our first instinct is often to isolate or complain. But verse 3 says He is the “God of all comfort.” When you’re anxious or stressed, stop and pray, and allow God to comfort you.

Heavenly Father,
You are the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. You are the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. Lord, you see each one of us, you know our afflictions right now. Some are grieving. Some are tired. Some are anxious. We ask you to meet us right where we are, Father comfort us. In Jesus name. Amen. 🙏🏼
