PETER’S SUBMISSION

In our reading for today, Peter taught us to fully submit to Jesus without question.

4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your word I will let down the net."

When Peter was asked by Jesus to let down his net, Peter had every right to FEEL INSULTED:

BECAUSE:

-He is the fisherman, Jesus is not.

- He knows the Lake of Gennesaret and Jesus doesn’t.

- He is an expert in fishing and reading the signs of the lake and Jesus is not and has no experience at all.

- Jesus has no right to tell him what to do because he knows his job better than Jesus.

Peter had every right to be ANGRY at Jesus:

Because:

-Jesus used his boat and still have the audacity to direct him.

- He was exhausted for the whole night fishing for nothing.

- They already washed their nets.

BUT instead of feeling insulted and getting angry, Peter submitted to Jesus’ direction. He said “at Your Word I will let down the net” and he did! And they caught the great number of fishes – more than they can take – great things happen indeed when we obey.

In our life, sometimes we are asked to do things that we think we are more expert than those who asked us. So, we feel INSULTED, DEMOTED and ANGRY. Little did we know that it can be a part of our training for the greater work that is planned for us and it is necessary to go through it to solidify our experience and our learning so we will be able to truly serve. Most of us would miss this opportunity to be trained because of our emotions. Because of PRIDE.

Peter’s first reaction was to obey – it showed his true heart. A submissive heart.

What about us? When we are given a task lower than what we expect – how do we react?

-       Do we say Amen from our heart without question?

-       Do we react with anger and question the task because we feel like we know better?

-       Do we rebel and resign from our job because we felt insulted without knowing that maybe the leader wants to see if we are ready for a higher position?

If we want to see miracles and we want to experience greater things in life. Let us learn to submit to the direction of Jesus.

Let us reflect: HOW SUBMISSIVE ARE WE TO OUR LEADERS, PASTORS, BOSSES, TEACHERS AND MOST ESPECIALLY TO JESUS.

AMEN.

Let us walk with this scripture today.
